CONTEMPORARY ART
On Saturday, June 24, contemporary art particularly shone during the sale of Paintings at the Marc Labarbe house.
The dynamism of acrylic on canvas produced by Hans HARTUNG (1904-1989), after a bidding war between 12 people mostly bidding by telephone, reached the sum of 44 600 euros. Its green, yellow and orange hatchings painted in a very meticulous manner seem to merge with the background of the painting: we no longer know whether it is these lines that blend with the background or the background that ultimately invites itself onto the lines.
Oil on canvas by Georges MATHIEU (1921 – 2012) a testament, if any were needed, to his typical “calligraphic” style in black on a greige background, has also managed to seduce many art lovers. No fewer than seven people followed the auction by telephone, and the live broadcast was no exception. It was also an Internet user who made the highest bid, taking this painting for 26,300 euros.
