Henri Martin (1860 - 1943)
Description
Henry Martin (1860 – 1943).
Born in 1860 in Toulouse, he bought in 1881 the domain of Marquayrol in Labastide-du-Vert in the Lot.
This oil on canvas, a view from the village bridge, is a superb testimony to his pictorial technique aimed at constructing forms and rendering light through short, separate and parallel touches. An original “divisionism” that reveals the influence of the neo-impressionists, with a poetic inspiration that brings it closer to symbolism.
